In many ways the spiritual dimension of the diaconal formation programme is the most important because it's aim is to prepare the deacon candidate in such a way that his life as the Church's minister forms an integrated whole of professional skills and personal commitment and devotion to Christ and the Church.

Briefly, the goals of spiritual formation are:
The discernment of vocation
The cultivation of commitment to Christ and the Church
To deepen prayer life and knowledge of the Catholic spiritual tradition
Prepare the candidate for the challenges of diaconal spiritual leadership
In addition to the commitment to regular prayer and the study of spirituality, the deacon candidate will be expected to have a spiritual director and to participate in days of recollection and retreats.
