In March this year Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, when addressing members of the Vatican Congregation for the Clergy reminded them that it is the 150 anniversary of the death of St John Vianney, the Cure of Ars, the patron Saint of the Priests. And so "to encourage priests in striving for spiritual perfection on which, above all, the effectiveness of their ministry depends, I (Benedict) have decided to establish a special "Year for Priests" that will begin on 19 June and last until 19 June 2010" (It began on the feast of the Sacred Heart)  

Plenary Indulgence Offered for Year for Priests. Jubilee Marks 150 Years Since Death of St Jean Marie Vianney also known as Curé de Ars The Vatican is offering a plenary indulgence for all faithful on the occasion of the Year for Priests, which is set to begin June 19 and last one year.
